A total of 1,600 scholarships will be awarded to meritorious students from the North Eastern States pursuing diploma, degree, postgraduate, M.Phil., or Ph.D. courses within India. Eligible candidates can apply online through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).

NEC Merit Scholarship Eligibility Criteria
1. Residential Status
Only permanent residents of the eight North Eastern States are eligible:
- Arunachal Pradesh
- Assam
- Manipur
- Meghalaya
- Mizoram
- Nagaland
- Sikkim
- Tripura
2. Income Limit
Family income should not exceed ₹8.00 lakh per annum. Valid income certificate from a competent authority is mandatory.
3. Educational Qualification
Minimum 60% marks in the qualifying exam is required:

4. Other Conditions
- Should not be availing any other scholarship or financial aid.
- Internship or training courses are not covered.
- Scholarship applies only from the year of admission. No fresh applications allowed in later years.

Selection Process of NEC Merit Scholarship 2025
- Selection is purely merit-based from verified NSP applications.
- For M.Phil./Ph.D., the topic of research must be specifically relevant to the North Eastern Region.
- No preference for theoretical/basic research.
- State-wise slots are allotted based on population census.

- Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC)
- Issued by Deputy Commissioner/SDO (COI in case of Sikkim).
- Income Certificate (Mandatory)

⚠️ Candidates applying for the first time must complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) using Aadhaar or EID.
